Abstract
Symptoms of excessive hot flushes can cause rosacea (redness on the face),
difficulty sleeping at night (insomnia) and can affect a person's mood, decreased
concentration, causing other physical and psychological problems.
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of giving soy milk (soya) on
the incidence of hot flushes in perimenopausal women at the Karuwisi Health
Center, Makassar City.
This type and method of research involves two groups of subjects using a
Quasy Experiment approach with a Two Group Pretest Posttest approach. The
population in this study was all 56 perimenopausal women. Based on the results
of the sample formula calculation above, there were 18 respondents in the
intervention group who were given soy milk (soya) and 18 respondents in the
control group who were not given soy milk (soya) using purposive sampling.
The results of the study showed that before being given soy milk, 10 people
experienced mild hot flushes, 6 people experienced moderate and severe hot
flushes. Meanwhile, after being given soy milk, 2 people experienced no
symptoms, 13 people experienced mild hot flushes and 3 people experienced
moderate hot flushes. The first measurement control group experienced mild hot
flushes, 12 people and 6 people moderate. In the second measurement, 11
respondents experienced mild hot flushes and 7 people experienced moderate hot
flushes. There is effectiveness of giving soy milk (soya) on the incidence of hot
flushes in perimenopausal women with a value of p=0.003 and p=0.042, which
means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted.
Patients are expected to increase their knowledge about the signs of
maternal perimenopause, especially hot flushes, as well as diligently following
counseling/counseling on perimenopause and improving nutritional care to
