Abstract
This study aimed to increase students’ vocabulary mastery by using mind
mapping. The researcher provided material about vocabulary using mind mapping
thriugh WhatsApp group (online learning). The subject of this study were students
of class VII C which 25 students at SMP Tut Wuri Handayani Makassar, in the
2020/2021 academic year. The researcher used the classroom action research
(CAR) method in two cycles; each cycle consists of planning, action, observation,
and reflection. The instrument of this study were interview, field note, vocabulary
test, and documentation. The result of this study indicated there was increase in
students’ vocabulary mastery by using mind mapping techniques. This could be
seen from the calculation of the average test in the first cycle was 70.48 (11 students
or 44% got completeness) and the second cycle was 80.6 (18 students or 72% got
completeness). This indicates that use mind mapping technique, students’
vocabulary mastery can increase significantly.
