Abstract
The white turmeric rhizome plant (Curcuma zedoaria Rosc.) is a plant that contains
secondary metabolites, one of which is flavonoids which can be used as
antibacterial substances. So the aim of this research is to determine whether the
ethyl acetate fraction of white turmeric rhizomes (Curcuma zedoaria Rosc.) can be
formulated as a hand sanitizer gel preparation, and has antibacterial activity and
to find out what the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) is for Staphylococcus
aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. This research method is laboratory
experimental research, using the maceration method with the disc diffusion test
method. At concentrations of F1 (5%), F2 (7%) and F3 (9%), K(-) without fraction
and K+ (ANTIS). The results of the research evaluation at concentrations of F1
(5%), F2 (7%) and F3 (9%) meet the physical and chemical requirements.
Antibacterial activity test against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at F1 (5%)
inhibition zone 11.6 mm (strong), F2 (7%) inhibition zone 12.4 mm (strong) and F3
(9%) inhibition zone 13.9 mm ( strong) and K+ inhibition zone 16.9 mm and in
Escherichia coli bacteria F1 (5%) inhibition zone 10.7 mm (strong), F2 (7%)
inhibition zone 11.5 mm (strong) and F3 (9%) inhibition zone 12.6 mm (strong) and
K+ inhibition zone 16.4 mm. It was concluded that the minimum inhibitory
concentration (MIC), namely 5% in F1, could inhibit bacterial growth in the strong
category.
